Latin-spiced Excitement Reigns at Annual Festival

The 5th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration is a hit

Hillsborough County's Latin heritage was on full display at an Aging Services party at The Regent on Sept. 28.

More than 400 members of the County's Senior Centers and Dining Centers turned out for the 5th Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration, with many of them attired in Latin-themed outfits. Sunshine Line buses ferried lots of attendees to and from the Riverview community building.

Dancing prevailed throughout the 3½-hour fiesta as seniors, County staffers, and volunteers boogied and mingled to salsa music and other upbeat Spanish tunes. Latin cuisine and colorful decorations added to the south-of-the-border motif.

The annual celebration is part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which lasts from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Hispanics account for about 27 percent of Hillsborough County's population.
