County Presents Check to Newsome High School Marching Band

Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White will present a $5,000 check on behalf of the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners to the Joe E. Newsome High School Marching Band for the band's upcoming trip to New York City to perform in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The check, which will help with the band's travel expenses, was presented during the halftime of Newsome's football game on October 14.

The Newsome Wolfpack Marching Band is the only Florida high school band and just one of ten high school marching bands in the nation performing in the parade. They are also the first Hillsborough County high school marching band to ever receive an invitation to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

"This is a big deal for both Newsome High School and Hillsborough County as a whole. What better way to showcase our county than to have one of our high school bands appear on national television as part of this wonderful American tradition that tens of millions of viewers will be tuned in to," said Commissioner White, whose district Newsome High School lies in. "I encourage each and every citizen of Hillsborough County to tune in as the Wolfpack band showcases our hometown."
