Extension Considered for the Open Burning Ban

Hillsborough Emergency Policy Group Members Meet May 17

Hillsborough County, Fla. (May 16, 2017) - Members of the Emergency Policy Group will meet on Wednesday, May 17, to consider extending a ban on open burning in Hillsborough County.

The discussion will be held immediately after the conclusion of the regular Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners meeting in the 2nd floor boardroom of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa. The County Commission meeting starts at 9 a.m.

Warm temperatures and dry conditions have combined to increase the danger of wildfires in our area. The Emergency Policy Group initiated the outdoor burn ban by executive order on April 27. By law, the order can be made for no more than seven days at a time.

The Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group is comprised of three County Commissioners, the mayors from the cities of Plant City, Tampa and Temple Terrace, and the Sheriff. Authority is granted by Article 8 of the Florida Constitution, Section 125.66 and Chapter 252, Florida Statues, Hillsborough County enacted Hillsborough County Code of Ordinances and Laws Chapter 22, Article II, Sections 22-23 in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of County's citizens during declared emergencies.
