Child Care Facilities Advisory Board

This Board advises the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on recommended amendments to the Child Care Facilities Ordinance; proposes additional rules and regulations to the BOCC which effectuates the intent and purpose of the Ordinance; recommends and assists the Hillsborough County Office of Child Care Licensing in the development and implementation of training materials for child care personnel. It also advises the Hillsborough County Office of Child Care Licensing on all matters pertaining to child care facilities.

Membership:

The membership of this Board shall be appointed by the BOCC and shall be comprised of 17 members. Composition is specified as follows:

  • Hillsborough County Fire Marshall or representative
  • Director of Early Childhood Education for the Hillsborough County School System or representative
  • Director of the Hillsborough County Health Department or representative
  • 1 Representative of a local non-profit or governmental agency, other than a unit of county government, serving the needs of young children in child care and their parents in the County
  • 1 President of an association whose purpose is to promote professionalism in early childhood programs or representative
  • 2 Operators from licensed, private, for-profit child care facilities
  • 1 Operator from a licensed religiously affiliated child care facility
  • 1 Operator from a licensed, private, for-profit child care facility from the African-American community
  • 1 Operator from a licensed public/private child care facility that works primarily with migrant children
  • 3 Parents from the public-at-large who have a child enrolled in a child care facility in the County
  • 1 Representative of a non-profit, licensed child care facility or organization
  • 1 Operator from a licensed child care facility that serves at-risk/special needs children
  • 1 Operator of a religiously exempt child care facility
  • 1 Member of an accrediting organization of a religiously exempt child care facility

Terms:

Members shall serve three year terms.

Special Requirements:

Appointment to this Board is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
